Walked 18.05 miles from Ephraim to Gunnison today to complete day 16 of 30 in the FCA Walk Across Utah for a total of 288.50, which leaves only 211.50 to complete the challenge π
The bottoms of my feet and toes are a bit sore, primarily due to three blisters I needed to drain this morning, but I feel good otherwise.
I’ve been asked how the weather has been throughout the walk, and all but a handful of days at the start where I had some rain, the weather has been terrific.
I start out between 6-7 am (depending on distance to start), and get a good share of the mileage in before the heat rises. There have also been a good number of overcast days.
Another question I was asked: How did you prepare for this walk, and now that you’re halfway done, would you have done anything differently?
First, I want to thank Corbin Talley for the time and experience he shared with me. Corbin jumped on board to assist me from the beginning when I shared the idea with him.
He created the route, recommended the training, and along the way, offered encouragement, support and eating tips.
I logged over 1,300 training miles prior to starting the walk; walking every day for 4 1/2 months. Typically 8-10 each week day; 12 or more on Saturdays; and 15 or more on Sundays.
I also worked out and used the rowing machine on most days I trained.
There’s nothing I can think of that I would have done differently now that I’m over halfway through the walk challenge.
Thank you for all the positive messages and questions. I’ll continue to answer a question or two here, and others in the daily blog posts at https://utahfca.org/walk-across-utah
